Well, I've finally got fed up of running KDE apps under Gnome and I've installed Kubuntu. This is a fresh install, a previous attempt installing the kubuntu-desktop metapackage worked, but left me with some oddities.
This clean install was a last ditch attempt in some respects, I have been seriously considering going back to openSUSE, given that testbox took to it okay (even if none of my other hardware did). But then I really want the prospect of three years of stability, rather than the eighteen months that is as much as openSUSE can offer.
Kubuntu doesn't give you the Ubuntu One service, but then I've decided I can't afford it yet anyway. <insert shrugging smiley>
Edit: Sooo, I installed KDE4.5 today, looks pretty but KWin usage had jumped up to around 15 to 20% processor usage. That's way too much for a window manager in my opinion. Googled around for a bit without finding anything particularly relevant to this specific instance.
After poking around in desktop effects, I noticed that something called "Blur" was enabled, indeed I'd noticed that my transparent panel had a blurred background now. I unchecked this option, clicked apply and now KWin has dropped down to about 4 to 5%. That's much more acceptable. _________________ Bye, Rhakios |
