|
|
Running Scientific Linux 6.1 (x86_64). I've added the rpmforge repository so that I can do a yum install synergy.
| Code: | ---> Package synergy.x86_64 0:1.3.6-1.el6.rf will be installed
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Dependencies Resolved
====================================================================================================================================
Package Arch Version Repository Size
====================================================================================================================================
Installing:
synergy x86_64 1.3.6-1.el6.rf rpmforge 1.0 M
Transaction Summary
====================================================================================================================================
Install 1 Package(s) |
However, the moment installation finishes, I can check for updates, and get this:
| Code: | Running Transaction
Installing : synergy-1.3.6-1.el6.rf.x86_64 1/1
Installed:
synergy.x86_64 0:1.3.6-1.el6.rf
Complete!
[root@dirac yum.repos.d]# yum update
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
Setting up Update Process
Resolving Dependencies
--> Running transaction check
---> Package synergy.x86_64 0:1.3.6-1.el6.rf will be obsoleted
---> Package synergy-plus.x86_64 0:1.3.4-1.el6.rf will be obsoleting
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Dependencies Resolved
====================================================================================================================================
Package Arch Version Repository Size
====================================================================================================================================
Installing:
synergy-plus x86_64 1.3.4-1.el6.rf rpmforge 449 k
replacing synergy.x86_64 1.3.6-1.el6.rf
Transaction Summary
====================================================================================================================================
Install 1 Package(s) |
So yum now wants to obsolete my synergy installation and replace it with a synergy-plus one. Fine by me... so I'll say to go ahead and do the update:
| Code: | Installed:
synergy-plus.x86_64 0:1.3.4-1.el6.rf
Replaced:
synergy.x86_64 0:1.3.6-1.el6.rf
Complete!
[root@dirac yum.repos.d]# yum update
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
Setting up Update Process
Resolving Dependencies
--> Running transaction check
---> Package synergy.x86_64 0:1.3.6-1.el6.rf will be obsoleting
---> Package synergy-plus.x86_64 0:1.3.4-1.el6.rf will be obsoleted
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Dependencies Resolved
====================================================================================================================================
Package Arch Version Repository Size
====================================================================================================================================
Installing:
synergy x86_64 1.3.6-1.el6.rf rpmforge 1.0 M
replacing synergy-plus.x86_64 1.3.4-1.el6.rf

And at this point, I'm now in an infinite loop of recursion! If synergy-plus is installed, yum thinks updating to synergy 1.3.6 would be a good idea. If synergy 1.3.6 is installed, it thinks replacing it with synergy-plus 1.3.4 would be useful. Net result is that I am constantly being advised in the system tray area that updates are available, and I am constantly going to bounce between these two programs... and all from the one repository.
Anyone have any suggestions about how to break out of this loop, short of uninstalling synergy (or its plus cousin) altogether?? |
