The other command reads as you suggested...

peter@zebidee ~ $ ls -a /opt/cdf/SystemFiles/FrontEnd/Binaries/Linux
. .. .CreationID espeak gltest nbcat sicheck WolframCDFPlayer
peter@zebidee ~ $ md5sum /home/peter/Downloads/CDFPlayer_8.0.3_LINUX.sh
23e97c7a16bcbdd5b3f198b8ae15035b /home/peter/Downloads/CDFPlayer_8.0.3_LINUX.sh

What happens if you try to run the executable directly with:
Code:
/opt/cdf/Executables/wolframcdfplayer

Here it is...

peter@zebidee ~ $ /opt/cdf/Executables/wolframcdfplayer
/opt/cdf/Executables/wolframcdfplayer: 233: /opt/cdf/SystemFiles/FrontEnd/Binaries/Linux/WolframCDFPlayer: not found

OK, I'm baffled... the directory listing of:
/opt/cdf/SystemFiles/FrontEnd/Binaries/Linux

Clearly show the file as present:
Quote:
. .. .CreationID espeak gltest nbcat sicheck WolframCDFPlayer

And it runs perfectly on my Ubuntu 11.04 64bit.

[EDIT]

Can you post the output from:
Code:
ls -l /opt/cdf/SystemFiles/FrontEnd/Binaries/Linux

Expected output:

Quote:
mark@mark:~/Desktop$ ls -l /opt/cdf/SystemFiles/FrontEnd/Binaries/Linux
total 13048
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 17304 2011-08-14 22:42 espeak
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 10568 2011-08-14 22:42 gltest
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 403144 2011-08-14 22:42 nbcat
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 22488 2011-08-14 22:42 sicheck
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 12898240 2011-08-14 22:42 WolframCDFPlayer

OK, not a permission issue then... sorry but we've reached the end of my knowledge.

Seems odd that the application cannot find the WolframCDFPlayer binary, when the system can clearly see it.
