Not necessarily. Linux already supports GPT and EFI but Windows doesn't; so it isn't possible to use GPT with Windows. That may have reduced the incentive to improve GPT and EFI for Linux.
By leapfrogging Linux to UEFI, Microsoft may just have provided the incentive to shift Linux down the road. I suspect the underlying issue is the need to handle disks of over 2Tb. |
