Hi
is it possible to make ISO file from my existing Ubuntu installation which I can install on another computer or use in virtual box. If so will in include all my settings and upgrades.
Many thanks.

Install remastersys, covered recently in the magazine, to build a live/install ISO from your existing system, with or without personal settings.

Hi
thanks for your reply, I remember this article but can't seem to find it. Any pointers please.
Also Google says it's old and not available. Ubuntu reps don't have it.
What I am trying to do is -- I BT5R1 installed on a bootable SD card and several times it has crashed loosing all my settings and updates and I have had to start from scratch again. I was very pleased when the "Learn to Hack" LXF154 article appeared using VirtualBox (on Ubuntu) but can only get 3 IP's not the 4 as the article says, so I have given up with VirtualBox at the moment as I have wasted many many hours and can't get it to work.
many thanks

Remastersys was mentioned in Answers in LXF149 and there is a tutorial on it in LXF157.

It's not in the standard repos, installation instructions can be found at http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys

Hi,

A few people have reported having problems with the number of IPs appearing. There seems to be a problem in some installations of VirtualBox. The solution is to turn off the NAT network interface on the BackTrack machine.

There is also a typo in the tutorial a little later in the line

ssh -i ~/rsa/2048/ 57c3...

There shouldn't be a space between the '/' and 57c3...

As Nelz says, there will be a tutorial on using Remastersys to create a custom ISO in LXF 157 which will be in the shops on 29th March, and with subscribers a bit before then.

Ben

Thanks for info on Learn to Hack.
Disabled NAT on both Metersploitable and Backtrack and nmap works OK and finds IP of the metersploitable machine. I have played with Backtrack for some time but never used VirtualBox or VmWare before. I can now work though the "Learn to Hack " article.
As to my ISO question I look forward to the next edition of Linux Format
Many thanks for all the help.
