Has anyone seen this offer:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/raspberrypi
Is it worth it, will anyone be taking up the offer? |

Hmm, I don't know much, but that looks overpriced to me. You probably have half of that gear lying around, and the stuff you don't have won't cost much. Just buy the Pi and get the other stuff you need separate. |

If you've bought any sort of mobile device in the last 4-5 years, you'll already have a micro-USB cable and charger. Most computer enthusiasts also have old mice and keyboards lying around, probably the odd USB hub too. So all you're getting for your 70 quid is a 30 pound Pi and a wireless dongle.
Also note that they are only taking pre-orders, the exclusivity deal Pi have with Farnell and RS still has a while to run. _________________ Unix is user-friendly. It's just very selective about who it's friends are. |

If you do have an old phone charger, make sure it is the correct voltages! Mine weren't! _________________ For certain you have to be lost to find the places that can't be found. Elseways, everyone would know where it was |

MicroUSB is 5V, that's the spec. There are some that don't deliver enough current, but they should all be 5V. _________________ Unix is user-friendly. It's just very selective about who it's friends are. |

Well so long as the little numbers and units match up, all is good _________________ For certain you have to be lost to find the places that can't be found. Elseways, everyone would know where it was |

It's the volts that jolt but the mill(iamp)s that kills |

Certainly not! The ad has in it the magic phrase, several times, that tells you it's overpriced - "Gold-plated connectors".
Also, once it's up and running you usually don't need the extra mouse and keyboard, for example - http://bit.ly/JVKvOk _________________ "Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. If I were looking to buy a kit for the pi, for £70 I'd expect to see an HDMI cable, case for the Pi, 8GB SD card (minimum) and cheapy wired keyboard and mouse. _________________ AMD PHENOM II X6, 14 GB DDR3, 500 GB hd, 1GB nVidia card, running Linux Mint 14 KDE / Win 7. Damn thing keeps breaking.
