I am currently running openSUSE 11.4 and haven't bothered to upgrade for various reasons. With v12.2 on the DVD I'm thinking of doing it.
Can I just upgrade from the DVD or will it be a complete new install?

The general advice with openSUSE is only to upgrade between consecutive releases; so assuming you have a default 11.4 release, copy any mysql databases or changes to /etc that you made and do a fresh install.
openSUSE will simply overwrite / and leave /home unchanged. |

I think you should be okay, provided you also have a wired internet connection. FWIW, I did a live update from 11.4 ---> 12.2 without issue.
As usual, back up your data before undertaking the upgrade. |
