About a year ago I read in LXF about a way of serfing the web anonymously using a couple of programmes. Can anyone remind me how it's done?
Thanks.. |

Probably was tor that you saw or read about.
Firefox also has a Start Private Browsing option in the Tools menu, but tor is better though much more difficult to set up, I think, though I have never used it. _________________ Xubuntu 12.04 user, and loving it! |

When you said anonymous serfing, I thought you were going to sneak into my house, iron my shirts and sneak out again!
I take it you meant surfing? _________________ AMD PHENOM II X6, 14 GB DDR3, 500 GB hd, 1GB nVidia card, running Linux Mint 14 KDE / Win 7. Damn thing keeps breaking.

tor is not that difficult to set up. Most distros package it these days and if you install a GUI front end for tor, such as vidalia, it will pull in everything you need (tor and polipo) as dependencies.
It's then a matter of setting up your browser to point to the proxy - there are many tutorials and guides for this for various browsers/platforms online.
firefox's private browsing mode is private in the sense that your family or other users can't see what kind of pr0n you're into... it is not private in the sense of "anonymous browsing". |
