Time for an update article on Samba ?

Postby fritzm » Sat Jan 05, 2013 8:01 pm

I've just been setting up an Ubuntu 12.10 server. I was referring to an article in LXF 117 for help in setting up Samba but found quite a lot has changed. SWAT is now not installed and not recommended; smbmount is no more - replaced by cifs-utils. I found a lot of wrong advice on the web because it seems that the deprecation of smbmount is recent, so it would be good if you did an up-to-date article. Since the change is at Samba and kernel level, it is going to affect all recent distros, so it won't only be for Ubuntu users.

I'd second that, and with a nod to securing samba connections, too please.
