Mint 14 MATE works. Works fine, except for one thing... I get an error message on startup:
language en_GB does not exist using system default
I click past this and it works.
Anyone know how to sort this error?

So it looks like en_GB is supported; I hope it's not a case sensitive thing... Can you take a screenshot of the message when you get it? Share it on tinypic.com or similar free image host.

I meant to, but my camera needs charging. I thought about that, so I looked. I've corrected the spelling to include correct case en_GB instead of en_gb.

Oh, you get this at the boot screen? I assumed it would be after logging in (in that case, just press the Print Screen button to get a screenshot).

The screen pops up just before I get a desktop. It might be too early to screenshot, but I'll give it a go...

There's no login screen. Login is automatic.

Okay, found it I think. Edit your /etc/default/locale file as root (gksudo pluma /etc/default/locale). The first line is probably:
If there isn't a line that sets LANGUAGE also, add it as follows. If there is, but doesn't have the .UTF-8 bit then add that. It should be set the same as your LANG variable.

Then reboot to activate.
Found through an old bug report on GDM, on which MDM is based that Linux Mint uses. Here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/185947. Comments #15 and further were the helpful ones.

Made the change to the second line. It previously read "...GB:en" on the end.
No luck though. I got the same error on startup.
That link appears to be dead. It went to another error screen.

Yeah, sorry. I didn't put the URL in tags and so the dot at the end got included when you clicked on it. Fixed it above. I'm not sure what else could be the cause of this.

Fixed it!!! 
I had a look around the MATE section of the Mint forums.
It seems that if I log out and then change the default language to English (GB) in the login screen, the session confirms the default change and then doesn't have the error again.
I just wish they'd build it into the install...
