Sorry, my bad. A typical case of read the other replies before diving in! Didn't think it could be a cpu prob. My first Linux was Fedora 1o, and I've got a 2:1 in IT {albeit from '95} and I just couldn't get it to play mp3s never mind dvds! I just couldn't understand it, then moved to Ubuntu, usually runing the studio distribution, but trying the vanilla desquetop ones too before they all went unity. I'm a wierdo though; I don't like Linux Mint....... Don't like Cinamon, Mate is dated, and Linux Debian wiped my Windows 7 and backup partition when I tried that, even though I did every correct in the right order etc.

That's OK, your info will still be useful to anyone who doesn't have my exact problem, ie, old CPU.
