I use Mint15 64 with i5, 8GB of fast RAM, 500Gb HDD.

Originally I tried Mint 16 32 but Cinnamon would not load and my new nVidia card was not recognised, so I reverted to Mint 15 64 - because it worked before.

The new nVidia card was also not recognised so I put back my older card and the nVidia drivers hardware card was swiftly and properly installed.

OK, so I have a working system, but I cannot play sound. I get messages such as "you have a corrupted codec and this cannot be repaired".

The question for today is - how can I uninstall the codecs and do a new install to get sound?

I am happy to use the cmd line. (Much new practice gives me confidence)...

Best regards

David

If you goto the software centre you should be able to see which
codecs are installed and have a chance to delete them then reinstall ?

Thanx Ted, but I was able to find the codecs package.

However, I pressed the "install codecs" button on the desktop and got the dumped onto the cmd line. After entering my password I got the following info.

Code:
Pack with unmet dependencies:

mint-meta-codecs: depends :libdvdss2 not installable
                                      :w64 codecs not installable
:mint-flashplugin not going to be installed

Might this be a good time to try apt-get upgrade?

Best

David
