A neighbour wants me to install Linux on one of these. Having looked at the specs;
IntelAtom N270, [1MB] 1GB DDR2 RAM, 250GB HDD,

What OS/desktop combination would run best? The neighbour is handicapped, so a point-n-click GUI is essential.
At the moment, it's got Win7 Starter, & runs like treacle. Rolling Eyes

I just installed Ubuntu 14.04 (64bit)(LF cover-disc) on their poorly-running Windows8 laptop. I couldn't get it working properly, & they've lost the key so couldn't re-install Win8. I suggested installing Ubuntu, instead of going to the shop for help, & they're so happy, they want more Linux!

I take it that's 1GB or RAM and not 1MB Shocked

I'd go for something lightweight like Lubuntu. Anything running LXDE should be quite nippy on that hardware.

Embarassed Yes. Smile

I have Lubuntu on a cover-disc, I think.
