Put simply: DRM, patent issues and the law. Most if not all distros will not play DVDs ootb, and adding multimedia codecs and other proprietary stuff after installation is a regular ritual in Linux.

He tells you to do an update via Zenworks somewhere in there to replace the Xine libraries with those from the Packman repository. If you haven't done so already, you would be well advised to completely update your system via Yast (NOT Zen) before you start with these instructions. There's a serious bug in the initially-installed version of Zen.
