At school, i am pretty sure that all computers cannot boot from a floppy disk and the cdrom and they have locked the bios, is there anyway or any program that can run in windows which can boot a live cd distro. such as knoppix.

Look at http://www.linux.org and goto the Distributions page
Under the Catergory menu, you can select Runs on MS Windows.

It found these:
LoopLinux
muLinux
Xteam Linux
Pklinux
Tomukas
TopologiLinux
Cooperative Linux (aka coLinux)
Klinux
AMIGO Linux OS

Brief descriptions, and details where the hom epages are, and where to downlaod are also given. Check it out.

I've used TopologiLinux... it still needs to boot from CD. It uses a big file on your Windows disk instead of a Linux partition, so avoids all the partitioning hassles. It had it's uses... until I discovered Knoppix !

it is actually alright, today i tested out that i can use a floppy, cd drive disabled aswell as booting from memory key, i will create a knoppix boot disc, as described in the manual - and i'll be advertising linux to the class. I might have a go with a harddisk version but knoppix works well thanks!

Put Smart Boot Manager on a floppy and you'll be able to boot any CD.
