i am shopping for christmas and i dont know what to buy for most of my family
if you tell me what your best gift was it might give me some ideas
if you know of any good places to shop on line i would love to know them post me a link
im always looking for a good deal more so at christmas than any other time post me any good deal that you know off
lets see if we can help each other have a cheaper and less stressful chrismas shopping experience
on line shopping is the way to go

The best gift I ever received was a boxed set of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy CDs (the original 2 radio series). Still making me laugh more than 10 years later...

In 1997 I was the lucky recipient of a brand-new team issue GT Zaskar LE mountain bike. I sold it in the summer of this year and still managed to get £400 for it. Total testament to quality.

Grado SR-80s. Absolutely ugly to look at. Absolutely amazing to listen to. About $95 American.

This year I want the new Criterion Collection 3-DVD release of Brazil and of Seven Samurai.

Oh, yeah, and if there's money left I could go for some of that peace on earth, good will thing.

Great question. Perhaps I just say 'new' because I hadn't seen it before. I had this movie on VHS for a long time and actually wore it out. I guess I didn't know Criterion previously had a 3 disc release.

Of course, whenever you see one of these new collections advertised, they always use the "never before shown footage" and "Special behind the scenes...". It's almost as annoying as the trend in releasing films with garbage footage that was so crappy it was scrapped in the final cut, but then calling the release the "Unrated Edition" or saying "With new Unrated Footage". As if there are suddenly dancing whores jumping out of cakes! (Which, in Brazil wouldn't even seem too odd.)

Fair 'nuff, it didn't seem like the kind of trick Criterion would indulge in, to release an even more enhanced version of a previous release. Enjoy the discs, there are some interesting interviews.

1953 I got a battle wagon, pressed and enamelled 2'6 " deep tray with steerable front wheels and a swan neck handle that meant you could sit in it and hurtle down hills. The only drawback was no brakes so it meant lots of bruises and abrasions [pained expression and tears]

Found that it's more than a re-packaging by Criterion. Content remains the same. (Same x minutes of "bonus footage".) But they did a new anamorphic 1.78:1 transfer with remastered soundtrack for the "new" 3 disc set. It was released in September of this year.

If I get it, I'll give you a review.

Oh and it went from Dolby Digital 2.0 to Dolby Digital 2.1 if that means a big difference to you.

ten or eleven years ago my oldest son gave me a computer for Christmas that had windows already installed. Eventually I went online with it and it got destroyed ( naturally ). I bought a new computer three years ago which also had a windows OS. I spent lots of money on software and hard drive reformats trying to cope with the " holes " in windows. I eventually just gave up and was forced into Linux.

Needless to say I am very glad to be now in the Linux community; and I sincerely hope the open source mentality finds its way into other human environments.
