one thing i hate more then poor netequathingy (i cant be bothered to spell it) is SPAM

lol yeah i sometimes get that but Thunderbird takes care of that.. but if they are gonna spam me can they do the following..
1. spam in english
2. send me a phish email TO A BANK I USE!!!!
3. remember im not born yesterday...
chatroom spam is the worse.. esp when chatrooms have no moderation all you can do is report and hope for the best that the lazy b****** moderaters of the chatrooms take action.. some they dont..
what is the point of spam?! its just a waste of everyones time
p.s i would like to point out im refering to a chatroom on another website where its total anarchy

I'm sure you know the answer really, but here we go: spamming is cheap, very, very cheap and you only need a few morons to respond to it to make it worthwhile. Sadly, the internet possesses a glut of morons.
As for wasting everyone else's time, they simply don't care. Spammers are a bunch of selfish bastards who should be strung up by their genitalia.
(If you find that last sentence offensive, then you should have seen the version I didn't post).

I used to believe that SPAM was all about getting some poor sucker to spend $100 on Vitamin Schwing, but in recent years I question whether the point of a growing amount of SPAM is to literally bring down e-mail servers and (perhaps) the Internet itself. Yes, of course that is taken to a rather large extreme, but look at the sheer volume of SPAM you receive nowadays that is literally un-intelligible gibberish. I've even gotten SPAM messages without links in them. What would the point be of that if not to simply overload the servers that need to carry them?
Oh my goodness, it's true. We Americans really DO obsess over conspiracy theories!
BTW, worse even than SPAM is SPIM for any of you who have received it. I did a trade show in San Diego and my phone kept going off while in our booth. Thinking something tragic was going on, I excused myself only to discover about a dozen ads on my cell phone. Mind you--I don't even USE my phone for IM or e-mail, so it's not like I've given it out. I have no idea how it works, but it's nasty. |

im not being xenophobic or racist.. but is it just me when the eastern world got the internet.. spam has shot up..
for me most if not all my spam comes from china...

You might find this article interesting then. As it is from March (data actually from December 06), it's fairly current. It seems that one of the reasons the West looks so bad is because of the number of subverted computers acting as spam relays.
I wonder how much less spam there would be in a Windows-less world.

It wasn't that long (circa 2002/3) ago that 1/3 of ALL internet spam came from a white English bloke from Southampton, or maybe Portsmouth, I knew it was that neck of somebodies woods.
Can't remember his name, but he made $$$$ out of it, got busted and did 100hours community service or something.

speaking of spam.. i have set up a new linux forum (yeah i know there are 2000 of them) not been up for 2 days and some yank puts spam on it.. GRR SPAMMERS..
btw the froum is www.linuxinformation.co.uk/forum im sorta starting a wiki too but that needs a lot of work so it looks kinda crude..

This is absolutely correct of course; but does anyone here know of anyone whos has ever responded to a spam message?
I don't...
...well not counting that penis-enlarger and two cases of viagra that I have on order. (Strange, it must be six months now since I ordered them and they've still not arrived...)

More to the point, does anyone know of someone who will admit to having responded to spam. I have the feeling that there might be some discrepancy between the two figures.
