|
|
So I'm trying to install Gentoo, but I don't know what to do when I get to step 6c in the handbook. according to the handbook, i need to
# cd /usr/portage
# scripts/bootstrap.sh -f
& then,
# cd /usr/portage
# scripts/bootstrap.sh
Since I'm using the coverdisc, i need to copy files from the DVD (per instructions from the magazine).
What files do I copy and how do I do it?
Thanks a lot you linux gurus

I am installing this also. Next time I will make meticulous notes but for now all I have written down is:
#cd /usr/portage
# scripts/bootstrap.sh
I think when I typed that it took off and ran for hours, maybe all night.
The next thing I wrote down is :
#emerge -e system
Again it ran for hours, I think. I typed "emerge -e system" because when bootstrap was finished there was a message on the terminal that said to type that command so I followed that instead of some other command that I had seen. Everything seems to work well so far. I am emerging x11 right now and it has been running for maybe 3.5 hours. |

You don't need to copy files from the DVD, see the paragraph at the end of page 115/beginning of page 116. _________________ "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." (Albert Einstein) |
