The NSA in the states has been doing something similar with all traffic routed through the states for years "National Security"

It's a huge waste of money. The only way they will be able to deal with the volumes of data they have will be to build algorithms to search it; then anyone who wants to hide their activities will simply have to find the algorithms and adjust their behaviour to beat the algorithms.

OK they may strike lucky occasionally. But the expense will almost certainly outweigh the occasional result.

I don't even think civil servants, or indeed many of the computer companires that will bid for the jobs, are likely to be sufficiently well aware of the difficulties to even recognise that the job isn't viable.

That much is evident from the repeated failures of civil servants, and in many cases private companies, to manage IT projects of any size.

The NSA monitoring is keyword and names of interest triggered and as i said been in operation for at least a decade. I use to play darts with a crew of a Canadian Forces station here in Ottawa that did shall we call it contract work for that effort along with an Aussie forces group so it may just be that the UK is playing me too
