Hi all linux users,

I got an Acer Aspire One with linpus and 120 GB hd, not the model with the flash drive, and 512 Mb ram, however, after tweaking the linpus, which in fact is based on fedora 8 I realised that it was not handy as I am a linux user I needed another distribution that I would enable me to make updates, install latest software, etc. I tried the Linux4one and Fedora 10, however it has to be tweaked in order to work properly. Then, I thought to try Mandriva 2009, and bingo!!! it installed all the required drivers including the atheros wireless, ath5k. without any need for further tweaking.

While installing Mandriva 2009 I would recommend to create 2 partitions, a root and a swap one, or use the original partitions, and format as ext2, and opt for Gnome desktop.

Any one trying to find an alternative to the linpus, I would recommend to install Mandriva 2009, as everything works smoothly.

Geee, it's a little like an alcohol's anon meeting Smile

Oh yes the announcement ... Walmart UK have dropped their in store price to £ 150, if you can find one, and a customer service agent to get you one out of the lockup! Very Happy

Hi,

When I installed Mandriva 2009 on my Acer Aspire One was via an usb dvd driver. Beside Mandriva 2009,
Another alternative is the Linux4one, based on Ubuntu LTS 8.04, and the ISO can be downloaded from the following link:
http://www.linux4one.it/index.php?pid=24

Other wise, to keep the original Linpus, which is based on Fedora 8, is a lso fine as long as some tweaks are done. The following pages have detailed information about it, as well on installing Fedora 10 on the Acer aspire One:

Hi again,

The best alternative to the original linpus I have found so far for the Acer Aspire One is the Linux4one, which is based on Ubuntu Hardy LTS. Linux4One just released version 1.0 and the iso can be downloaded from:
http://downloads.quellicheilpc.com/linux4one/1.0/index.html

http://downloads.quellicheilpc.com/linux4one/1.0/linux4one_1.00.iso

This distro works out of the box on the Aspire One.
I have installed it on my netbook and is quite good.
